7 Ways to Prepare for a Newborn Photography Session
1. Give Your Baby a Bath Before the Session
If your baby enjoys bath time, giving them a warm bath before your session can help them feel relaxed and sleepy. Every baby is different, but many parents find that a bath followed by a full feeding helps their little one settle comfortably for portraits. Don’t worry if your baby isn’t sleepy when you arrive, we’ll always work at your baby’s pace.
2. Feed Baby Right Before We Begin
A full tummy makes a happy baby. I usually recommend feeding your little one just before the session starts or as soon as you arrive so they’re relaxed and content.
3. Dress Baby in Loose Clothing
I recommend dressing your baby in a loose-fitting zip-up or button-up sleeper before your session. This helps minimize unnecessary disruptions that can unsettle your little one and makes it much easier to transition them into one of the beautiful outfits I provide for their portraits.
4. Don’t Stress if Baby Needs Breaks
Every newborn is different. Feeding breaks, diaper changes, cuddles, and soothing are all part of the session. There is never any rush.
5. Keep Clothing Neutral for Family Photos
If parents or siblings will be photographed, soft neutral colors like cream, beige, white, light brown, or soft gray create a timeless look that keeps the focus on your family.
6. Trust the Process
Safety is always my highest priority. Every pose is done gently and patiently, and your baby’s comfort comes first throughout the entire session.
7. Relax and Be Part of the Experience
